Regular testing of emergency escape lighting is not optional. Most regulations require a quick function test monthly and a full-duration discharge test annually.
Keeping a “log book” is the only way to prove to fire inspectors that these tests were actually performed.
We have created a bundle of 5 Free Emergency Lighting Log Templates in PDF format. These are printable forms designed to help you track pass/fail results, repairs, and test durations.
Here is a look at the 5 templates included in the file.
1. The Electrical Engineer’s Log

This template is for the pros. It goes beyond a simple checkmark, asking for “Voltage,” “Serial No.,” and the specific “Type of Test Carried Out”.
It also tracks the exact “Start Time” and “Finish Time”, which is required to validate that the batteries lasted for the full rated duration (e.g., 90 minutes or 3 hours).
2. The Fault & Repair Register

This log prioritizes fixing broken lights. The table includes specific columns for “Details of Fault or Failure” and “Action Taken”.
This makes it a working document for maintenance teams—if a light fails, the action plan is written right next to it. It lists the Month and Year at the top for easy filing.
3. The Periodic Inspection Sheet

This is a standard compliance form. It features checkboxes at the top to indicate if the test is “Monthly” or “Annual” .
The log table is simple, tracking the “Entry Date,” “Unit #,” and “Result”. It uses a tick/cross system for speed and includes a column to record who performed the action.
4. The 20-Point Checklist

This form is designed for efficiency. It features a pre-printed list of numbers 1-20, allowing an inspector to quickly check off a bank of lights.
It uses “Yes/No” checkboxes to indicate if the result was correct. The footer tracks the “Next Test Due” date, helping you schedule the next round of maintenance.
5. The Standard Test Log

This template is a reliable “Test Log” for general building management. Like Template 3, it tracks Monthly vs. Annual inspections.
It features a clean layout for recording “Fault Details” and “Action Taken By”. It is an excellent all-rounder for offices, schools, and residential blocks.
